Spring is a great time to tackle some of those do-it-yourself projects. And while the thought is a good one, it can be daunting. With a few helpful tips you can make your home smarter and more efficient as you head into the warmer weather.

Introducing the Self Connect portal (within the app)!

Now you can easily add additional devices to your Digital Life system yourself - all with the help of the app.  That means making updates on your time, when you are ready - without having to call us.

Online instructions provide step-by-step instructions to guide you along the way.  You can use the portal when you purchase the following items:

  • Keychain remote
  • Outdoor Smart Plug
  • Indoor Smart Plug
  • Samsung indoor camera

Ready to take a look?  From your tablet or smartphone, just go to your Digital Life app main menu from your mobile device:

  • Tap Self Connect
  • Your devices will be listed
  • Select the device you would like to install
  • Once the device is selected, you'll be given step-by-step instructions on how to install, discover and test your new device
  • Installation times can vary by the device you are adding

Insulation improvements

The temps are inching upwards, so now's the time to check the insulation in your house to keep it cool inside as it heats up outside.  Adding insulation to your attic can help to insulate your home, and it's a project you can easily tackle in a weekend.

If you have the Energy Package, it can also pay to be smart about your thermostat settings and automated controls, which you can manage from your Digital Life app.

Caulk and clean; enjoy a clearer view

Check the caulk and weather stripping around your windows this time of year, since winters can take a toll on it. If you have noticed any condensation inside a double or triple pane window, there's a good chance the seal has been damaged. Even if not, it's worth it to check.

Once you've done that, you'll want to remove the gook and grime from your windows so you can enjoy the improving view. One cup rubbing alcohol, one cup water and a tablespoon of white wine vinegar will work just fine and give you a nice, clean window. If your screens have been on all winter, clean them with a mild detergent and let air dry before putting them back on.

Once the windows are caulked and cleaned, it's a perfect time to take inventory of your window sensors and add extra sensors to your home if you need them.
